When I was a little girl in Argentina, it was traditional for the birthday girl or boy to treat everyone in their class at school to birthday cake, or some other treat. It was brilliant, and like all of my most beloved traditions, it’s something I managed to do with my own kids in the narrow window of opportunity before – alas! – nut allergies, gluten and lactose intolerances, and formal kitchen hygiene requirements put an end to the whole deal.
But I still like to treat people on my birthday.
